Kindle E-mail Address

Last Updated: Nov 08, 2011 01:00AM CET

Before you can send articles to your Kindle with Kindle It, you will need to know your Amazon Kindle email address and an email address on your Amazon Kindle Approved List. This page will tell you how you can find and change these email addresses.

Your Kindle E-mail Address

Owners of the Amazon Kindle device are provided with an email address which is linked to their device. The email address comes in two forms: @kindle.com and @free.kindle.com (although Amazon does not display the @free.kindle.com address on your management page, it is still usable).

If you're unsure what your Kindle email address is, or if you'd like to change it, you can visit Amazon's Manage Your Kindle page. The page is split into multiple sections. The section which lists the e-mail address is Manage Your Devices (you'll find the link on the left-hand menu). It looks like this:

The address listed here is what you enter in the Kindle It form. Unless you have a sustainer account, we will always send to your @free.kindle.com address (more on that below).

Approved Email Address to Send From

Amazon will only delivery articles sent to your Kindle email address if the sender's address is in your approved list (it silently discards emails which are sent from addresses not in your approved list).

So to ensure articles sent with Kindle It reach your Kindle, you will need to add kindle@fivefilters.org to your approved list, or tell Kindle It to send from an address already in your approved list. To add an address to your approved list you will have to visit Amazon's Manage Your Kindle page again. The section you're after is called Personal Document Settings (you'll find the link on the left-hand menu). It looks like this:

The sub-section Approved Personal Document E-mail List lists the e-mail addresses which Amazon will accept emails from. To ensure articles you send with Kindle It reach your Kindle, you have two options:

  1. Add kindle@fivefilters.org to your approved list by clicking the Add a new approved e-mail address link. Then tell Kindle It to send from kindle@fivefilters.org.
  2. Copy an email address already in your approved list and tell Kindle It to send from that.

Tip: You can also add a made up email address, e.g. made.up.address@nowhere.com, and tell Kindle It to use that as the from address.
